Welcome to The Strong Club: Classes with your Coach
Ok, so for those of you in the UK and Europe, we’re heading into another lockdown, and that brings with it all sorts of constraints and anxieties. One thing you don’t need to worry about is how to get your workouts in. I’ve got lots of options for you to stay active and keep progressing in your goals.
So, without further ado, I’d like to welcome you to The Strong Club!
What’s this all about? Well, in a nutshell, I coach 30-40min group classes throughout the week via Zoom. The classes are designed to give you variation and hit all of the key points to create a balanced workout regimen. They are lots of fun, will get you moving, help you stay connected, have a chat and a laugh, and get after those goals.
We’ve also got some exciting new perks for Strong Club Members in the works.
To join us, head over to the Classes page on my site to check the schedule, sign up, and even claim your first class for free!
Can I get a good workout at home?
Yes! Training is all about creating a stimulus and it doesn’t matter if it’s at home or in the gym, you can still progress your fitness and your goals without all the fancy gear.
As you know, I love lifting, getting tricky with advanced movements, and being in the gym. BUT you can do great work and get technical even without gear.
Mike Tyson famously didn’t lift weights throughout most of his career and he was one of the fittest, toughest and strongest guys in the ring. He relied on a brutal bodyweight regime to get him there instead.
Getting a valuable workout is all about activating and creating tension on the muscles. You can do this with tempo, timed sets, isometric holds, paused reps and lots more. You don’t need to be in the gym to get it done.
Joining a Strong Club class is a great way to add variety into your training, feel connected to others and adds that layer of accountability. All you have to do is turn up and you can leave the thought process to me!
Is it just like watching a workout video or is there coaching?
I am there to be your coach! I set the reps, demonstrate the movement, and then switch to coach-mode. If you’ve got your video on, I’m here to help you with your form and coach you through progressions or regressions so that you get the most out of every class. This is really important to me, as I’m all about you as an individual. Even if we are here in a group environment, it’s always about what you get out of it!
Do I need equipment?
You don’t need anything to take part - all the workouts are possible without any additional equipment. BUT there are some items that will really help.
A mat, for starters, a towel and plenty of water nearby.
Resistance bands - they are cheap, they don’t take up much space and they give us the opportunity to add more variation. As you get stronger, they let us increase the load so you can keep progressing.
Dumbbells and kettlebells can always be added to some of the exercises. They are a great way to level up your training and give us more to work with. They are totally optional. You can also make stand-in weights from things you have at home - fill a backpack with books, fill a couple of big water bottles - get creative!
Can anyone join?
Yes! All are welcome, no matter your level. I’m here to be your coach and help you get the most out of your class with progressions and regressions. It’s all about giving it a go. The best time to start is NOW.
This is a supportive and non-judgmental environment. You should feel safe to join and do exactly as much as you can and not more or less.
What are the different classes?
Strong Move
This is your strength and technique class. It’s time to really focus on what you’re doing and how you’re doing it. You’ll work up a nice sweat too.
It’s a balanced session using bodyweight circuits, concentrating on great form. We'll do A and B strength circuits and then a nice conditioning finisher to increase your heart rate and end on a high!
You have an opportunity to increase your load with bands and weights if you want to but no equipment is required.
Strong HIIT
HIIT stands for High-Intensity Interval Training and this class is primarily focused on conditioning.
These classes are designed to be short and intense bursts. It will help improve your overall conditioning and really get your heart rate going. The endorphins will be flying after this session and you’ll have a huge sense of satisfaction - even if it feels hard at the time.
Strong Stretch
...it’s not all about stretching though! It’s about improving your mobility and flexibility around your joints. We’re creating stability and strength in mobile positions.
We will be mixing yoga, core, activation, balance, stretching, and breathing to create a fun and intense session. It’s not a walk in the park, there are always some tough bits, but it will leave you feeling great, relaxed, and with a sense of achievement.
Keep your eye out for some more additions coming soon!
How to add Strong Club Classes into your regimen
If you’re playing sport already, the Strong Stretch classes are perfect to get that balance of yin and yang in your weekly routine.
If you’re going to the gym but are struggling to get that extra conditioning in, Strong HIIT is perfect for you 1-2 times per week.
If your goal is to lose weight, a combination of the 3 classes will give you a perfect balance. Hitting one of each class type every week - 3 classes in total - is less than 2 hours out of your week, and will get you well on your way.
If you’re a beginner and want to start your strength journey, start off with Strong Move and Strong Stretch. You’ll create a great foundation.
If you’re someone who is looking for all-round fitness and health, and needs that extra bit of accountability, a combination of the three is great. Outsource the thinking about what to do to me, all you have to do is turn up!
